You should also insure your car as flood can affect your car even if left in the garage.

Most insurance providers cover damages caused by freezing and bursting of pipes but remember to read the fine print as there might be clauses that claims would not be covered if your house remains unoccupied for more than 30 days in a row. So, it is crucial to check all the details with your insurer.
